The official synopsis for the show provided by Variety reads:

A young mother unsatisfied with her seemingly perfect suburban life begins an affair with the boogeyman in her son’s closet – a surprisingly sexy man called the Nightbeast. But this harmless affair she thought to be a figment of her imagination begins to have unexpected consequences, as her two worlds increasingly begin to collide in this seductive, darkly comedic tale.

This intriguing series created by Leah Rachel and Travis Jackson, whose previous work includes the Netflix horror series, Chambers, brings a unique twist to horror-comedy. Although Chambers received mixed reviews, it showed potential with a 42% critics score and a more favorable 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

On top of starring, Maslany will also serve as a producer on The Nightbeast. She is currently associated with another horror project titled Keeper, directed by Osgood Perkins of Longlegs fame. It’s clear that Maslany has a penchant for venturing into darker genres lately.

Amazon MGM Studios has approved only the pilot episode for The Nightbeast, so its future beyond this initial phase remains uncertain. Should it receive a full-series order, viewers can look forward to seeing how this quirky and darkly comedic storyline unfolds.

Responding to criticism and trolling experienced during her stint as She-Hulk, Maslany mentioned that it felt integrated into the writing process: I think what’s exciting…exciting, ha. I think what’s fun about it is that [series creator] Jessica Gao built into the story that people were going to troll us. When we started to get the same responses that [Gao] had actually baked into the writing, it felt like part of the fun.
