WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Thalian Hall screened a preview of the movie The Exorcism on Wednesday evening. Originally known as The Georgetown Project, this supernatural thriller stars Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe.
In The Exorcism, Crowe plays a character named Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he is slipping back into his past addictions or if something more sinister is at play.
A Night to Remember at Thalian Hall
The event saw lines formed around the building, and according to Richard Trubia, the treasurer at Thalian Hall, it was a sell-out crowd. Guests even had their photos taken on the red carpet before entering the theater. Among those in attendance was Dee Snider, frontman for Twisted Sister and now president of Defiant Artist — a North Carolina-based production company.
Dee Snider’s Vision for North Carolina Film
Snider spoke passionately about bringing more filming opportunities to North Carolina, stating: This is a perfect example of a great movie made in North Carolina…
His goal is to build a compound in the Triad area so that film students don’t have to move away after college. They’re not going to have to leave anymore because Defiant Artist is going to have jobs and work for them,
Snider emphasized.
Miller and Fortin’s Collaboration
The movie marks the second collaboration between Anthony Miller and director Michael Fortin. The film idea stemmed from Miller’s childhood experiences of watching his father, Jason Miller, portray Father Karras in the iconic film The Exorcist.
The Exorcism also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, and David Hyde Pierce. The film is set to hit theaters on June 21.
