As the Annecy Animation Festival kicks off, excitement is in the air as Paramount Animation unveils its latest slate of developments. Among the highlights are projects involving some star power that promises to pique the interest of audiences.
In a thrilling announcement, Dropz, a film produced by Bad Bunny and Will Ferrell, was introduced alongside new titles such as a Swan Lake adaptation and fresh installments in beloved franchises like Transformers. Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation, described Dropz as: our E.T. about real kids in a super extraordinary situation.
Naito also noted that the story will be infused with fashion, making it a cultural statement for kids and families. The film features an ensemble team, including co-writer Ike Holter and director Rob Letterman.
Paw Patrol 3 Expansion
The ever-popular Paw Patrol series is also set to expand with a third feature film. Jennifer Dodge, Spin Master Entertainment’s President, shared her excitement: On the cusp of our second, super-powered film, we’re thrilled to announce a third feature film.
This new adventure aims to bring more action-packed missions and explore new terrains while highlighting how small paws can make big prints.
Sci-Fi Comedy Muttnik
Muttnik, another intriguing entry on the list, is a sci-fi comedy revolving around a sweet puppy turned space bandit. Veteran filmmakers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are on board as producers.
The story crafts a humorous narrative about this adorable space adventurer forced to return to Earth and reunite with his family.
A Tale of Princesses and Bikers
Next up is Once Upon a Motorcycle Dude, which Ramsey Naito calls a fairy tale disrupter. This film tells the story of a kick-ass princess teaming up with a post-apocalyptic motorcycle dude to save their kingdom.
A Revamp of Swan Lake
An innovative modern retelling of the classic fairy tale Swan Lake is also in development, written by Kourtney Kang of How I Met Your Mother
fame. Produced by Temple Hill, this project promises a fresh take on the beloved narrative.
Brazilian Extravaganza Yokai Samba
Capping off the list of new projects is Yokai Samba. Described by Naito as akin to The Last Starfighter
, this adventure takes its audience on an unforgettable journey to Brazil. Directed by Leo Matsuda, known for his work on Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph, and produced by Stacey Lubliner, it blends Brazilian culture with fantastical elements.
The Transformers Saga Continues
This evening at Annecy, Paramount Animation will preview their highly anticipated work-in-progress, Transformers One. Directed by Oscar-winner Josh Cooley, this origin story set on Cybertron explores how Optimus Prime (voiced by Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron went from friends to enemies.
An Abundance of Franchise Films Ahead
The future looks bright for fans of well-loved franchises as well. Alongside the upcoming Transformers release are projects such as The Smurfs Movie, arriving on February 14 next year, which seeks to rediscover the essence of Peyo’s Belgian comics in revolutionary 3D form.
A few other significant titles include: The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, opening December 12, 2025; Aang: The Last Airbender, set for January 30, 2026; and another exciting chapter in the Ninja Turtles saga – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 scheduled for October 9, 2026.
