Outlander‘s prequel Blood of My Blood has just dropped a major casting bombshell, introducing the young versions of Rupert and Angus – and it’s their real-life sons stepping into these iconic roles. The beloved duo, portrayed by Grant O’Rourke as Rupert and Stephen Walters as Angus, left a lasting impression on fans even after their tragic exits following the Battle of Culloden.
The prequel dives into the backstories of Jamie’s parents in the picturesque 18th-century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in England during World War I, expanding the rich universe of the original series. Now, viewers get to see younger Rupert and Angus depicted by none other than Louis and Marlow O’Rourke, the actual sons of Grant and Stephen.
A heartfelt video shared on social media showed the original actors proudly introducing their children in costume. The official Outlander page captioned it: Get ready for the sweetest Father’s Day casting news ever. Young Rupert and Angus are coming to #BloodOfMyBlood, played by none other than @grantorourke and Stephen Walters’ actual sons!
In the clip, Grant declares, I’m Grant O’Rourke and I played old Rupert.
followed by his son Louis saying, I’m Louis O’Rourke and I play his younger self, young Rupert!
Marlow Walters chimes in with, I’m Marlow Walters and I play the young version of Angus Mhor.
The touching announcement was well-received by fans who flooded the comments section with enthusiasm. One fan celebrated, Happy Father’s Day everyone. This was my favourite casting of the season.
Another expressed, Seriously you guys deserve a Nobel prize for your casting authenticity. So cute and awesome that they get to play their father’s characters as kids.
