Neve Campbell is officially making her highly anticipated return to the Scream franchise with Scream 7. Fans were ecstatic when she took to Instagram to announce the news, writing, I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!
An Iconic Franchise and an Unforgettable Character
Campbell first portrayed Sidney Prescott in the original Scream (1996) and continued her role in all subsequent installments except Scream VI. She skipped the sixth movie due to contract disputes, stating that the offer did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.
Reflecting on her character’s impact, she mentioned at the Reefer Madness: The Musical premiere, Those movies have been such a big part of my life and it means so much to me.
A Grateful Return
Neve Campbell‘s comments clearly express her gratitude, I was really grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way. I think that means a lot to women and to society. I’m grateful to be able to step in into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story.
Saying Goodbye to New Faces
The upcoming film also faces significant casting changes. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who played key roles in Scream VI, will not return for the seventh installment. Barrera was let go due to social media posts deemed inflammatory by the studio, while Ortega cited scheduling conflicts.
This leaves room for the spotlight on Campbell’s return, which Kevin Williamson, who will direct ‘Scream 7’, highlighted. He shared his enthusiasm on social media too: I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott.
