Fans of Modern Family can’t get enough of the hints dropping about a possible reunion or reboot. The speculation began stirring recently when Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted a nostalgic photo from the set on his Instagram, captioned Haven’t seen this view in a while.
This triggered a whirlwind of excitement across social media.
Adding fuel to the fire, Ferguson appeared in a TikTok video with Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who played Lily, where they reenacted scenes from the beloved sitcom. Fans went wild, flooding social media with comments and theories about what’s next for the Pritchett-Dunphy clan.
But what does the patriarch of the show, Ed O’Neill, think? In an interview with TV Insider, O’Neill shared his ambivalence but didn’t completely shut down the idea. He remarked, I don’t like to do that stuff. However, I mean, I am open to it. I like everybody involved, so I wouldn’t be the guy who says no if everyone else wants to. I wouldn’t do that.
The enthusiasm wasn’t just limited to Ferguson and O’Neill. During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ Sofia Vergara also expressed her eagerness for a reboot saying, Of course I would want to do a reboot. I haven’t had this much fun in years!
This excitement builds upon the show’s strong legacy. ‘Modern Family’, created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, debuted back in 2009, ran for 11 seasons with 250 episodes, and concluded in April 2020. Its unique mockumentary style and intergenerational humor won it numerous awards including five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
