Missouri Teen Kaylee Gain Seen Smiling in First Photo After Leaving Hospital

Kaylee Gain, the Missouri teen who was severely beaten in a fight last month, has been pictured out of the hospital for the first time. She was seen smiling while enjoying dinner with her family, marking a significant moment in her recovery journey.

In an update shared by her family on their GoFundMe page, they revealed that Kaylee had undergone surgery on June 1. The procedure involved putting her bone flap back in place, a step crucial for reducing her symptoms. Her father, Clint Gain, mentioned that Once the incision is healed up she can finally ditch that helmet she has to keep on at all times.

Clint went on to explain that the surgery should help with Kaylee’s persistent dizzy spells and headaches. He added, Kaylee is in good spirits today. She will continue additional PT and speech therapy over the next few weeks.

Her recovery journey has been challenging. According to their family lawyer, Bryan Kaemmerer, Kaylee still shows significant cognitive impairment. He noted that she often finds herself stuck in repetitive thought loops, reflecting the seriousness of her injuries.

The tragic incident that put Kaylee in this situation went viral when videos showed an altercation between her and another girl. The video captured the horrifying moment where Kaylee’s head was smashed against the pavement. This led to severe injuries including a fractured skull and internal bleeding.

The 15-year-old alleged attacker has been charged with felony assault and is currently held by St. Louis County Family Court. Although details are scarce due to the attacker’s status as a minor, it has been revealed that the incident drew considerable attention on social media platforms, eliciting widespread support for Kaylee.

The support for her recovery has been immense; so far, over $330,000 have been raised to aid in covering medical expenses. This support not only highlights the community’s empathy but also underscores the severity of Kaylee’s condition and the long road ahead.

Reflecting on their anguish, Kaylee’s mother Kristi Goncalves stated, I was really hoping that, um, we could get this show on the road because the not knowing… it’s just, it’s agony. The uncertainty surrounding the extent of Kaylee’s brain damage remains a heavy burden for her family.
