Fans were concerned when they heard that the 91-year-old country icon Willie Nelson had to sit out the initial dates of the Outlaw Music Festival due to health concerns. The news, delivered via social media, indicated that he was under doctor’s orders to rest.

Lukas Nelson Steps Up
In Willie’s absence, his son Lukas Nelson took center stage with his Family Band. Their special performance included several Willie Nelson classics tailored to honor his musical legacy. A particularly touching moment came when Lukas performed “Always On My Mind”.
Performed at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, North Carolina, the rendition highlighted Lukas’s ability to carry the spirit of his father’s music. A fan remarked on YouTube, Lukas is really the best at continuing the spirit of his father.
Highlights from the Set
The set also featured notable performances from various artists. At 6:35pm, Billy Strings kicked off with Whiskey River
. The audience was treated to a harmonious duet by Allison Russell and Norah Jones who performed “Seven Spanish Angels”, garnering praise for their vocal synergy.
Acknowledging Opportunities
Lukas Nelson has always been humble about his success. When asked about his music and its appeal, he downplayed his abilities, attributing success equally to the band members. 
He explained that their music resonates most in places where people understand and connect with their culture and way of thinking. But he clarified,I’m really talking about how people who are familiar with the culture and the way of thinking that produced our music are going to find something they can relate to and accept in it. Not everybody gets what we’re doing.
