The Lakeside Inn, nestled in Middletown with roughly 100 years of history, has transitioned into an unexpected role: a major filming spot for the newly released movie, ‘The Bikeriders.’
This journey into Hollywood is not exactly what the Mack family anticipated when they purchased the property back in 2021. At that time, this historic bar had been closed for several years. Co-owner Josh Mack reflected on this serendipitous turn of events, noting, It’s just so cool that it happened in this bar.
The film sets a nostalgic tone as it delves into the underbelly of 1960s motorcycle gangs. According to Brian Mack, another co-owner, “Bonnie and Clyde were in here at one point.” He was equally surprised when six months post-purchase, he received a call that birthed this Hollywood chapter: Hey, we want to shoot a movie down there.
This filming experience spanned four days post a three-month renovation of the inn. Managed by veteran actors like Austin Butler (known for Elvis), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), and Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road), the project drenched the location in authenticity. Movie industry analysts were notably impressed with its nearly $10-million opening weekend.
Post-production, the bar seamlessly integrated mementos from the filming process, including an original script and set pieces. Both Josh and Sierra Mack snagged roles as extras, with Sierra reminiscing, How did I get in this room?
The commencement of activities at Lakeside Inn didn’t just rejuvenate the historical site but also became a locus of public fascination. A patron recently entered donning a t-shirt featuring Austin Butler from the film.
The revitalized structure now hosts live musical performances from Nashville artists and stands as a testament to rekindled memories shared by older patrons. Brian Mack noted the overwhelming community support by saying, The older people that had memories here; they are just in awe…the whole neighborhood seems to be coming back to life.
‘The Bikeriders’ highlights not only a cinematic rebirth within Middletown’s cherished landmark but also accentuates the significance of preserving historical structures while staying open to creative evolution.
