When You Just Know What Harry Potter House You’re In (Comic)

Sometimes when you watch a movie it’s fun to pretend. Take the Potterverse for example. A lot of people have really gotten into thinking about what house they’d want to join and where they might end up. Of course a large number of people are going to claim Gryffindor. After all, that’s where Harry, Ron, and Hermione all went, so why not? The problem is that you’d have to get by the sorting hat if Hogwarts were real. Just saying what house you think you’d be in isn’t quite enough.

So how would you guess?

Gryffindor’s are known for being brave, rather bold, and filled with passion. They aren’t always the most thoughtful bunch but do value good friends and a stout heart. The only issue with Gryffindor house is that they can be a little vain at times, which is fitting since the emblem of their house is a lion set with a fiery reddish-orange background. If you’re the type that runs headlong into anything for a good reason then it’s possible you might be a Gryffindor.

Hufflepuff’s are kind of the nice guy of the bunch that doesn’t bother anyone and keeps their nose to the grindstone. They are all about hard work, patience, diligence, and are fiercely loyal to their friends. They are kind of the house that no one ever really talks about because they like to keep to themselves a lot and help out wherever possible without any grandstanding.

Ravenclaws are the intellectuals of Hogwarts. They aren’t all geniuses but their house is built upon intelligence, knowledge, and wit. They are typically the house that performs exceptionally well each year and has one of the highest GPA’s, or the Hogwarts equivalent, of the other houses. As such they are far more cerebral in their dealings with others and tend to be a little more aloof and dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge.

Slytherin house is all about cunning, ambition, and being resourceful even if one has to be a bit ruthless to do so. They are given a rather bad name simply because their founder, Salazar Slytherin, detested what he called mudbloods and believed that magic should have been kept pure among those that were born into it. Fortunately not all Slytherin’s are predisposed to this line of thinking, as Harry and Ginny Potter’s son Albus eventually became a Slytherin.

Just saying which house you are often isn’t good enough since you can claim anything you want. To be of one house or another it takes a person that is wholly dedicated to the principles that each house represents.

The trick about it is though, if a person was to make a request of the sorting hat then the hat would take into account their desire and make a decision based upon its best instincts. This means that Harry could have easily gone to Slytherin instead, but thanks to his desire to go with his friends he was placed in Gryffindor.

It’s great to say where you WANT to be, but in the Potterverse, sometime it’s where you NEED to be.
