Jerry Seinfeld Getting Slammed for “Black Lives Matter” Tweet

Jerry Seinfeld has never been one to shy away from a good bit but it looks like a tweet he posted on Thursday is catching some pretty serious heat.   He recently used the “Black Lives Matter” movement as the butt of a joke for his upcoming episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee where his next guest will be Lewis Black.  Seinfeld tweeted,

“New!” the comedian wrote. Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Lewis Black. Black’s life matters.”

Obviously this line was a riff on the Black Lives Matter movement which rose amid police violence towards African Americans.  The joke did not go over well with a number of people and Seinfeld is receiving a host of backlash on social media for it.   Here are a couple of responses that you might have seen.

“This is worse than the finale of ‘Seinfeld’ which I still don’t like,” wrote one detractor, who also replied, “Who’s writing your tweets now? The Breitbart humor section staff?”

“Now I see why Larry David wrote all the jokes,” said another critic, referring to “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David.

However, those that know Seinfeld’s comedy should understand that he’s never been a fan of political correctness, and probably never will be.  In fact the comedian now refuses to perform at college campuses because of the new PC atmosphere.  “They just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice,’” he said. ‘They don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”

Back in 2015 he told Seth Myers that he caught flack because he told a joke about a gay French King.   He mentioned that the audience said “what do you mean gay?” and seemed offended by the comment.

The reality here is that Jerry Seinfeld is a comedian.  He’s not a racist.  He’s never been a racist.  He may be a little more old school but he’s clearly not Archie Bunker comedy.  My guess is that his friend and fellow comedian Chris Rock would 100% be behind this tweet and take no offense whatsoever.  The PC world has become too PC and all he did was use a play on words here.  I do not personally think he was trying to harm anyone.  Though knowing Seinfeld, he’ll probably apologize because I doubt he’d want to really offend anyone.  At the same time he’s got to be thinking, “are you kidding me?”

Here’s the actual tweet if you’re interested.
