Jennifer Aniston got emotional during a recent Variety interview when asked about her former Friends co-star, Matthew Perry. Perry, who was found dead in October at the age of 54, was a significant part of Aniston’s life and career.
During the Variety‘s Actors on Actors series, Aniston, 55, spoke with Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary. When Brunson asked what it’s like rewatching episodes of Friends in 2024, especially after Perry’s death, Aniston teared up. She responded with a sentimental Oh God, don’t make me cry.

Aniston recalled her close relationship with Perry: As he said he’d love to be remembered. He was happy. He was healthy. He was getting in shape. He was happy—that’s all I know.
They had texted on the morning of his death, which made his passing an even greater shock.
The treasured moments shared with Perry were encapsulated further during the funeral service. Aniston attended alongside castmates Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow. Amidst the gathering, she reportedly kept to herself, deeply impacted by the loss.
Aniston’s farewell mirrored tributes from other Friends co-stars. Matt LeBlanc posted on Instagram: It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye… It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend… And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.
David Schwimmer also paid tribute by posting a nostalgic photo of him and Perry dressed in Miami Vice-style from Season 5, calling it one of his favorites. The picture seems to distill the joy and humor that Perry brought to his colleagues and fans alike.
