A familiar face is making its way back to Teen Mom screens after filing to divorce husband David Eason. More than five years after being fired from MTV, Jenelle Evans is rejoining the franchise with Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.
The Cast Gives Their Take on Jenelle’s Return
TooFab spoke to cast members Maci Bookout, Leah Messer, Mackenzie McKee, and Briana DeJesus about Jenelle’s return and what fans can expect this season as their children enter their teen years.
Although not all the cast has spoken to Jenelle, Mackenzie McKee noted similarities in their circumstances due to recent divorces. She’s reached out to me,” Mackenzie told TooFab. “We exchanged numbers…we both recently got a divorce.
Mackenzie Sees a Common Struggle
That’s kind of like where we connect. We got a divorce from someone who kind of ruined what people thought about us,
she continued.
Mackenzie’s marriage was mired in infidelity and communication issues, whereas Jenelle’s headlines were dominated by more severe controversies involving David Eason.
Mackenzie hopes that viewers experiencing similar struggles might learn from Jenelle’s experiences, emphasizing: I take accountability for my part… love myself, I was rooting for her to do the same,” she added.
Maci Expresses Optimism
Though off the air, the drama surrounding Jenelle’s marriage to David was hard to avoid. Maci Bookout expressed optimism saying: I feel like…headlines can also be very misleading, but as far as being back on the show…her story can really help a lot of people.
I hate to use those words, but…it’s gonna make a difference for people that need [to] see this and see how she got away…they do relate to it.
Maci and Ryan’s Co-Parenting Journey
Another relationship set to unfold this season is between Maci and her ex, Ryan Edwards, with whom she shares 15-year-old son Bentley.
You really just see a lot of growth…figuring out how co-parenting looks with us…we’ve maintained a very healthy co-parenting relationship,” Maci shared.
Bentley‘s journey through adolescence will also take center stage. It’s been really crazy and terrifying…to see Bentley enter this phase…he’s a really good kid. I’m excited to see what his next moves are.
Leah Messer Faces New Challenges with Her Twins
Leah Messer‘s daughters Ali and Aleeah are also navigating complex phases including Ali’s battle with muscular dystrophy:
The hardest thing is when Ali looks at me and says, ‘Mommy, my legs hurt,’ it’s hard for her because she’s facing that at such a young age,” she admitted tearfully.
