HBO is riding high on the buzz surrounding House of the Dragon season two. The network has already greenlit a third season, just days ahead of Sunday’s premiere.
The head of HBO’s drama department, Francesca Orsi, lauded the production team in her recent statement. George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of ‘House of the Dragon’
, she said in a press release. We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart
. She further added, We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three

Westeros Plunges into Civil War
The much-anticipated second season plunges viewers back into Westeros, on the cusp of civil war. It begins with Rhaenyra’s struggle to reclaim her rightful place on the Iron Throne from Alicent’s son, Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney).
The breathtaking visuals showcase scenes where dragons clash amid fiery skies, hinting at even grander battles to come.
The Introduction of Blood and Cheese
This season also introduces new characters who promise to add complexity to the storyline. Fans will meet Blood and Cheese—assassins hired by Daemon Targaryen to avenge his stepson Lucerys Velaryon’s tragic death at the hands of his uncle Aemond Targaryen. The grim duo is infamous for their ruthless mission under Daemon’s command.
In George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, they brutally kill one of Aegon II’s sons, marking an unforgettably dark moment in Westerosi history. While HBO hasn’t confirmed who will portray these characters yet, their inclusion was assured.
