Grey’s Anatomy 7.13 “Don’t Deceive Me…” Review

Funnily enough, one of the big stars of tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy was Twitter. Yup, that’s right? Twitter.

[singlepic id=9903 w=320 h=240 float=left]In tonight’s episode, Dr. Bailey used the social networking site as a teaching tool so that residents at Seattle Grace and around the world could follow her exploits in the operating room. In a great move from the Grey’s team, you too can also follow her on twitter @mirandabaileymd to see the tweets from tonight’s episode and others.

Initially, I couldn’t help but think ‘Seriously? Tweeting from the OR? This just may be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen!’However, as the episode went on and the site was used to save the life of a patient as they received @replies from other hospitals, I thought ‘Hey, if this could happen that might be pretty cool.’

Using Twitter as a teaching tool actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. For many, it’s how they network, how they keep posted on the news, how they decide where they should go for dinner, what shows to watch, etc. It’s a versatile tool. Now, would that tool REALLY be used in the OR? I don’t think so but hey, hats off to the writers of Grey’s for the idea.

So as we learned at the end of the last new episode, Callie is pregnant with Mark’s baby! I repeat CALLIE is PREGNANT with MARK’s baby! When he finds out, it’s downright adorable how super excited Mark is to be a Dad but he is rightfully nervous about how Lexie is going to react to the situation. As suspected, Lexie is furious and storms out of his apartment at the end of the episode leaving Mark wondering what he should do.

[singlepic id=9913 w=320 h=240 float=right]The good news for ‘˜Calzona’fans is that although Arizona is mad and needs time to process the situation, she ‘is in.’She wants to be with Callie and upon hearing the baby’s heartbeat, she can’t wait for their baby to be born. The scenes between Callie, Arizona and Mark were quite entertaining tonight and the dynamic between the three of them should make for some interesting and great TV during this baby adventure. I hope Lexie will suck it up and join them for the ride. Her and Mark are wonderful together and I don’t want them to be apart again.

Secondary story lines tonight focused on an Alzheimer’s patient in Dr. Shepherd’s new clinical trial (whose wife was played by L. Scott Caldwell [Rose from Lost!]) and Avery/Cristina fighting for a major surgery with Teddy. While well acted and weaved into the show, nothing in particular stood out as a major plot development.

While this episode may not stand out on the long list of amazing Grey’s episodes, it did it’s job and set the stage for what is sure to be a fun and interesting second half of the seventh season. In addition, Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) did a decent job in his first turn as director.

Here are some of MY quips of the night from the episode:

  • “I’m not the cool Uncle.” – Mark re: Callie’s offer to take the easy way out
  • “Do not wait ’til the kid comes out looking all Sloan-y” – Callie re: Mark telling Lexie about the baby
  • “I’m a hormone casserole” – Callie re: needing to page Mark constantly

Next week, Meredith and Lexie’s dad Thatcher is back at the hospital. Only this time, he’s brought along his extremely young girlfriend. It’s also Valentine’s Day at Seattle Grace and all of our favorite couples will be celebrating while Karev will try to hit on Callie’s OB-GYN Dr. Lucy Fields (guest star Rachael Taylor).

So what did you guys think? Do you think Lexie will come around and reconcile with Mark? Will Karev be successful with Dr. Lucy next week? How did Kevin McKidd do in his debut as director? Will Teddy’s husband, Henry (Scott Foley) be back next week?! I hope so. Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
