Netflix has set July 11 for the premiere of the third and final season of Vikings: Valhalla, sequel to the Michael Hirst-created Vikings, from MGM Television. The streamer also dropped the Season 3 trailer, which you can watch above.
Created by Jeb Stuart, the drama begins in the early 11th century and chronicles the legendary adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his sister, Freydis (Frida Gustavsson) and the Norwegian prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter).
The New Season Takes a Seven-Year Leap
Season 3 picks up seven years after the conclusion of Season 2. Freydis is now the undisputed leader of pagan Jomsborg, and Leif and Harald have achieved glory in Constantinople. But greater challenges lie ahead in order for each to reach their ultimate destiny.
Main Characters Return with Significant Arcs
In addition to Corlett, Gustavsson and Suter, series regulars returning for Season 3 include Laura Berlin (Emma of Normandy), David Oakes (Godwin), Bradley Freegard (King Canute) with guest stars Pollyanna McIntosh (Queen Ælfgifu), Soren Pilmark (Sweyn Forkbeard), Sofya Lebedeva (Elena), Florian Munteanu (Maniakas), Erik the Red (Goran Visnjic).
A Glimpse into Character Developments
The final episode saw Leif saying goodbye to his love interest, Mariam (Hayat Kamille), who was terminally ill. Sam Corlett, playing Leif Eriksson, portrays a character deeply affected by love and loss. Leif is devastated at the loss of the love of his life.
I think Canute has a great respect for people who are able to use their politic and political ways to gain what they want.
Freydis’ Climactic Arc
The third season of Vikings: Valhalla does not hold back on stirring story arcs. Instead of fighting directly, Freydis planned and encouraged Joundr to switch sides and lead their men to a trap. After several convictions, Joundr did agree to the plan as he did not want to be seen as a traitor. Sadly, Joundr did not survive the battle after being badly wounded.
As the fight continued to develop, Freydis and Olaf came face-to-face, making it the deserved finale of
Vikings: Valhalla.
A Star-Studded Cast Returning for a Gripping Finale
The two actors will return to reprise their roles as Harald Sigurdsson and Leif Eriksson in the drama, alongside Frida Gustavsson, who will portray Freydis Eriksdotter for the last time in the new episodes. Frida Gustavsson shines brilliantly as Freydis navigating intense leadership decisions.
