Obama Embraces Vacation Life with Richard Branson
It seems like former President Barack Obama has wasted no time in embracing the vacation lifestyle. Not only is he taking a well-deserved break, but he’s doing it in style. Sir Richard Branson recently posted a video titled “Richard vs Barack,” showcasing the two of them kitesurfing near Moskito Island. The video has been making waves on Esquire and Uproxx.
In early February, photos and videos surfaced on Twitter depicting a content, backwards hat-wearing President Barack Obama on vacation with Michelle Obama somewhere in the Virgin Islands. They were accompanied by British billionaire (and Donald Trump survivor) Richard Branson, who was playing host to the former First Couple on his very own private island, according to Esquire and other outlets. As Huffington Post’s Philip Lewis put it, “Obama’s on vacation with the hat backwards. He’s never coming back.”
Surf’s Up: Obama Returns to the Waves
Branson shared on his personal blog that one of the first stories Obama told him when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was about his pre-presidential surfing days. “Just before he became President, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii,” Branson wrote. “When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: ‘This will be the last time you surf for eight years.’ For the next eight years, he didn’t have the chance to surf.”
Now, with his presidential duties behind him, Obama has returned to the waves. Branson and Obama didn’t just go surfing – they went kitesurfing. With the current state of affairs in the United States, it’s possible that Obama might extend his vacation for a while before returning to the mainland. And who could blame him? In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if President Donald Trump secretly wished he could switch places with Obama right now.
