A New Case for Benoit Blanc
Benoit Blanc, portrayed by Daniel Craig, is set to return in Rian Johnson’s third Knives Out film titled Wake Up Dead Man. In a teaser video, Craig’s voiceover teases, In the beginning, the knives came out. Then, behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed.
Continuing the Musical Trend
Rian Johnson has a knack for selecting song titles for his film names. Knives Out is named after a Radiohead song, while Glass Onion takes its name from The Beatles. Now, Wake Up Dead Man follows suit, borrowing from U2’s 1997 album ‘Pop’. This marks a shift from English rock to Irish rock in Johnson’s musical titling scheme.
A Peek into the Plot
The specifics of the plot remain under wraps, but Johnson hinted at a potential supernatural angle. He shared on social media, I love everything about whodunits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.
The Netflix Deal
Netflix acquired the rights to two Knives Out sequels in a landmark $469 million deal. Following Glass Onion, which had a limited theatrical release before hitting Netflix, Wake Up Dead Man will follow a similar path with a planned 2025 release.
Casting and Production
No official cast list has been announced, but given the franchise’s history of star-studded ensembles, expectations are high. Filming is slated to begin later this year with Craig reprising his role as Blanc.
