Eddie Murphy has set his sights on remaking the classic 1963 comedy It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. For fans of Murphy’s comedic genius, this is thrilling news indeed.
Remaking A Beloved Comedy
The original film was known for its star-studded ensemble cast, including Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, and Ethel Merman. The movie depicted a wild chase for hidden fortune sparked by a dying man’s cryptic hint about a buried treasure.
Murphy recently shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, I got this other idea for something with Martin [Lawrence]. I’ve been developing it for years…I’m trying to do a remake of that movie.
This goal pairs him with longtime friend and comedic counterpart Martin Lawrence.

The film’s plot kicks off during a massive California traffic jam caused by reckless driver Smiler Grogan (Jimmy Durante), who hints at treasure buried under the Big W before passing away. This launches a frantic race among an eclectic group of characters to find the loot.
The lineup included Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, Phil Silvers and Jonathan Winters among many others. Similarly, Murphy intends to assemble contemporary comedy greats for his version.
