Daisy Ridley Opens Up About Limiting Her Star Wars Return to One Film

Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her iconic role as Rey in the upcoming Star Wars film directed by Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy. However, there’s rather disappointing news: Ridley has only committed to one movie in the galaxy far, far away—at least, for now.

During her appearance on the SmartLess Podcast, Ridley revealed, It’s very cool. Different writer, different director… it will be quite a different feeling, I imagine. She added that she expects to receive the first pages of the script soon. This new installment is reportedly titled New Jedi Order, set 15 years after the events of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. In it, Ridley’s character will be facing a significant undertaking: attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Despite not having read the script yet, Ridley implied she feels more confident this time around. Reflecting on her first venture into the franchise with The Force Awakens, she shared, I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it… I’m an adult now. I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time.

This newfound ownership stems from her expanded experience both personally and professionally since she first donned Rey’s scavenger outfit back in 2015. She explained, I’ve had lots of other experiences, so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time…

Interestingly, Ridley did not seem hesitant about returning to the beloved franchise despite its divisive fanbase. She noted, Why wouldn’t I [do it]? Yes, [the fans] have been divisive, but also they bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people.

Daisy Ridley’s return signifies a remarkable milestone for fans who have keenly followed Rey’s journey from a lone scavenger to a formidable Jedi Knight. However, her current commitment to just one film leaves many uncertain about what to expect for the future of her character and if she will continue beyond this project.

The actress also reflected on navigating the instant fame that came with starring in her first Star Wars movie back in 2015. On this matter, she candidly stated: When things come out, there’s a flurry of activity, and then things sort of calm down again… Then it sort of goes away again…

As she strives to rebuild the Jedi Order, speculation abounds about which characters might return.
