Newburgh police were called to the scene of a violent incident on a typically quiet street. The incident took place outside 134 Carpenter Avenue around 3:30 PM, sending shockwaves through the community.

Reports indicate a man in his 30s was shot in the chest. According to Fire Chief Terry Ahlers, He was shot in the chest and he is responsive.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and frightening.

Local law enforcement quickly responded to the call. Deputy Lt. Michael Hoosock, a 17-year veteran with a wife and three young children, was present at the scene looking for cover when he was ambushed. Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick remarked, We believe the first officer shot is a sheriff’s deputy in the rear of the house. And I don’t believe he knew what was coming.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Newburgh Police Chief Anthony Geraci said, We’re poring through video evidence, cellphone footage, eyewitness accounts and obviously the victims who are at the hospital so there is a lot of information coming in.
