Andy Cohen is reflecting on the milestone of 15 years hosting Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. As the Bravo show marks its anniversary, Andy looks back at some memorable moments and high points, alongside a few regrets.
Among those cherished and regrettable memories, he recalls a moment from 2013 when Oprah Winfrey appeared on his popular late-night talk show. During the interview, Andy famously asked Oprah if she had ever taken a dip in the lady pond
, meaning if she had ever had a sexual encounter with another woman.
Andy reflected on that moment, noting it as one of his few regrets
. He said, It meant so much to me that Oprah Winfrey did the show
, expressing his admiration for her participation before adding, I turn around and ask her if she’s ever had sex with a woman. I mean, couldn’t I leave it alone?
Despite the awkwardness during that interview, Oprah kept her cool and gave an outright response: No, I have not. Thank you.
Andy appreciated that Oprah didn’t make him feel awkward after cameras stopped rolling. Later, however, he learned through Oprah’s best friend Gayle King how confused Oprah was by the phrasing of his question.
Gayle shared with Andy that Oprah wasn’t sure what he meant by the lady pond
. Andy admitted he thought he explained it clearly at the time but recognized how the unusual phrase might have led to misunderstanding. I was so grateful that Oprah did the show and I still am,
he added. Moreover, he credited this episode despite being one with regret as one of his favorites in WWHL‘s history.
