According to recent reports, sources who worked with Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness accused them of being “emotionally abusive” with “rage issues.” These sources claimed that Jonathan’s alleged behavior sparked tension among the Fab Five, including Bobby Berk, who opted not to return for another season.
Addressing Accusations on Table Manners
More than three months later, Jonathan addressed these accusations on a recent episode of the Table Manners podcast. Jonathan shared, One thing it taught me was that I had been getting so much self-esteem from social and my job.
The 37-year-old also praised their family, husband, and team for being supportive during the challenging period, adding that they avoided social media for almost three weeks. They noted, I think people forget no matter how famous you are, you’re still a person.
An Incredibly Vulnerable Time
The accusations surfaced at an incredibly vulnerable time for Jonathan’s hair care company and career. They reflected, The article came at an incredibly vulnerable time, like for my hair-care company, for my whole career.
Acknowledging Imperfection
Despite believing the article was overwhelmingly untrue and done in bad faith, Jonathan acknowledged moments throughout their career where stress may have impacted their behavior. They confessed, I know that there were times when I could have been better. But being a survivor of abuse and talking about everything I’ve talked about forced me to really learn how to slow down and love myself.
The Impact on Queer Eye
In December 2023, Van Ness and fellow costars became aware that a publication was working on a piece labeling Van Ness as a ‘monster,’ contributing to Bobby Berk’s exit. Fellow cast member Tan France addressed the accusations saying, This all started because of a comment on a gossip blog.
With these allegations publicized, Van Ness remains steadfast in their belief that the accusations were spun out of context to paint them in a negative light. If you still don’t believe me, so be it.
