Eddie Murphy Reflects on His Return
In a recent conversation, Eddie Murphy opened up about his experience filming the Netflix movie ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’. The iconic actor, now 63, shared his thoughts on stepping back into the shoes of Axel Foley. Speaking about the process, he said, I’m really excited to play Axel again
. He added Having my daughters here tonight, especially Bria who’s in the movie with me, makes this night even more special.
Years in Development
Collaborating once again with original producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Murphy emphasized the lengthy development process. Recalling past efforts, he shared, When he got involved, and he started developing the script…Because we tried for years and years, maybe 10, 12 years, and I must have read five or six different scripts, and it was never right. The studio was like, ‘Let’s go. Here it is.’ It was like, ‘It’s just not it.’
A Different Perspective on Stunts
Murphy also discussed his stance on performing stunts at this stage of his career. He noted, I was like, ‘I’m not doing anything action. Don’t call me unless you offer me the same type of shit you would offer Morgan Freeman,’
, highlighting his preference to take a step back from intense physical scenes. He humorously compared himself to Tom Cruise saying, I’m not 21. It was a long time ago, and it’s a really physical movie. And then I had to do some physical stuff. I know Tom Cruise likes to do physical stuff but I like to be on the couch.
The Family Connection
The movie also features a special appearance by Eddie’s real-life daughter, Bria Murphy. Describing their unique experience on set, he mentioned,‘She’s the one who arrests me.’
He continued,‘In the other scene when I get arrested in the movie… that’s my son-in-law tasing me in the neck.’
The unexpected dynamic added an extra layer of enjoyment and surrealism for Eddy.
