NBC is committing additional time to St. Denis Medical.
The network has confirmed they have ordered an extra five episodes for the much-anticipated hospital comedy, bringing the total for Season 1 to an impressive 18 episodes (as first reported by Variety). This expansion signals high confidence in the show, which will serve as the Tuesday night anchor at 8 PM.
St. Denis Medical will feature a mockumentary style, focussing on an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to both treat patients and maintain their own sanity. The series will utilize comedic elements similar to other successful series like The Office.
Noteworthy Cast Members
The cast boasts well-known names such as David Alan Grier as emergency doctor Ron, Kaliko Kauahi as part of the supporting cast, and Allison Tolman as supervising nurse Alex. Furthermore, the show stars Wendi McLendon-Covey as executive director Joyce.
Additionally, the supporting cast includes notable figures such as Josh Lawson, known for his work in House of Lies, and Mekki Leeper from The Sex Lives of College Girls. These actors bring a wealth of talent and comedic experience to the ensemble, enriching the series with diverse characters.
Crew Highlight: Justin Spitzer
The show’s creation and production are overseen by Justin Spitzer, a name synonymous with successful TV comedies. Spitzer’s notable background includes creating Superstore and writing for acclaimed sitcom The Office. His experience promises to add a unique blend of humor and heart to the new series.
Airing Details and Background
The episodic order also comes a month after NBC unveiled its fall 2024 schedule, with St. Denis Medical as a Tuesday anchor, opening the night at 8 PM where Superstore aired for most of its run.
This series was originally picked up in June 2023 but was delayed due to industry strikes last year. Despite the delays, it now takes over a prime-time slot previously held by other successful NBC comedies.
