The Return after a Year Absent
The actress, now 50, first starred as Sidney Prescott in Scream back in 1996, and has been a staple in the franchise since then. Her notable absence from the last film was deeply felt by both her and the fans. Campbell admitted, I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part of it.

Development for the new film began in 2023 amid high hopes from former directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, they mentioned they’d never give up on bringing Campbell back.

Ultimately, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett stepped away from directingScream VII, allowing Christopher Landon to take the reins last August.

An Original Voice Joins the Project
Kevin Williamson, noted for writing the screenplays for the first, second, and fourth movies in the Wes Craven-created franchise, will now direct this upcoming entry.
