A woman is sentenced to prison for her role in a deadly high-speed chase that killed one of her accomplices, according to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office. Shyanne Brina Canady, aged 23, received a 10-year prison sentence on June 28.
Plea and Charges
Court records reveal that Canady pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and aggravated battery in May. This case gained significant attention when the Overland Park Police Department detailed the events of November 27, 2023. Canady and two accomplices were caught stealing at a TJ Maxx store near 159th Street and 69 Highway.
High-Speed Pursuit
Fleeing the scene, the trio sped away in a getaway car, initiating a high-speed chase with the police. The pursuit escalated as the suspects ignored traffic signals, ultimately leading to tragedy.
The Tragic Crash
According to court documents, the chase culminated when the vehicle ran a red light at Blue Valley and W. 119th St. The car collided with another vehicle at the intersection, resulting in serious injuries. Two of the suspects were taken to the hospital.
