International film stars or stars from other countries are hard to pin down sometimes since the information is either incomplete or not always as forthcoming. Qi Shu, or Shu Qi, is what you would call a very accomplished actress. If you take a look at her career you’ll see that she is not a novice to the industry and has managed to make herself quite a valuable individual throughout her many contributions. Actors work their entire lives to be noticed and respected in their field but sometimes it happens that while the respect comes the notice doesn’t always precede or follow as they would like. But quite honestly she is no doubt a sensation given that she has enough acting credits to her name that simply mentioning her to people that know who she is would be enough to assure that she’d be treated accordingly.
Here’s a few things you might not have known about her.
10. She was considered for a role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
To think that she was being considered for this movie is kind of amazing since it would have catapulted her career to new heights and possibly put her in line to star in American movies had she gained the same kind of notice. But unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.
9. She’s done commercials.
This is the reason that she didn’t get into Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, because her agent decided to pull her from the film and put her into commercials instead. You can imagine that she wasn’t too happy with her agent and might have even terminated their contract over this, especially when the movie became such a hit.
8. Her career started in 1996.
Shu has been around long enough to see the industry change and to possibly lament not getting certain roles. But she’s had such a stable and sound career in her life that thinking that it could have been different is just so much water under the bridge now.
7. She has a very extensive list of film credits.
This woman has been busy during her career and it shows since she’s managed to rack up a very impressive list of film credits that is on par with many people her age and even greater than some that have been considered more visible in the business.
6. She’s done a few TV roles.
Her career in television hasn’t been nearly as extensive as her film career but it’s been enough to be noticed. Some people tend to stick to films since they do tend to bring a lot more notice as they are placed on a bigger screen more often and thereby given a lot more hype, if the movies in question are even allowed onto the big screen.
5. She’s released a few albums.
She’s a singer as well, making her even more impressive since it seems that there’s not a lot that she can’t do when it comes to show business. Diversifying your skills is certainly something that goes a long way to proving your worth and that a person isn’t a one-trick pony.
4. She’s 42 years old.
Shu looks extremely well for her age and in fact she doesn’t look as though she’s in her 40s at all. Some people are blessed with good genes and some simply know how to take care of their bodies as they begin to get older.
3. She was a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.
This seems like it would be a high honor since not just everyone gets invited to the festival and few among those would ever be picked as a jury member. The jury basically picks out which films will receive awards and the group is kept quite diverse as a rule so as to avoid any undue bias. At least that’s the hope.
2. She’s won and been nominated for a few awards.
Shu hasn’t gone unnoticed her endeavors as she has been nominated a few times for various awards and has even won in the past. Aside from just being nominated, having an irregular number of wins, meaning you win some and lose some, seems like it would keep the edge that an actor needs to stay competitive.
1. She’s done some modeling in her past.
It sounds as though this was a part of her career for a while and one thing to note is that she even posed for the Chinese edition of Playboy. Yes, Playboy has been global for a while and you can imagine that there are some women in whatever countries it’s reached that are easily up to the standards of the magazine. She’s done plenty of other modeling as well however, with her clothes on and for various other gigs.
She’s definitely ambitious and knows how to go after what she wants. Her career is proof of that.
