Apple TV+ has dropped an intriguing trailer for its upcoming series, Sunny, a darkly comedic mystery headlined by Rashida Jones. The show, adapted from the novel The Dark Manual by Colin O’Sullivan, delves into the life of Suzie, played by Jones, an American woman residing in Kyoto, Japan. Her world is thrown into chaos when her husband and son vanish in a mysterious plane crash. As solace, she is left with a domestic robot named Sunny, produced by her husband’s electronics company.

Suzie initially resents Sunny’s efforts to console her. However, over time, they form an unexpected bond as they work together to uncover the grim truth behind her family’s disappearance. This narrative forms the core intrigue of the forthcoming series.
Supporting Cast and Characters
The cast includes an array of notable talents. Emmy Award nominee Hidetoshi Nishijima
plays Suzie’s presumably deceased husband, while Judy Ongg takes on the role of Suzie’s mother-in-law. Additionally, Jun Kunimura portrays Yuki Tanaka, the roboticist responsible for the Sunny robots.
The Creators Behind Sunny
This eight-episode series comes from showrunner Katie Robbins and executive producer/director Lucy Tcherniak. Notably, this marks a second collaboration between Apple, A24, and Rashida Jones following Sofia Coppola’s 2020 film, On the Rocks.
