The famous Boston natives are back for a high-octane heist in Doug Liman’s new film, co-written by Casey Affleck. Fans of crime comedies like the Ocean’s series might find a new favorite with The Instigators. Apple TV+ has just dropped the trailer, showing Matt Damon and Casey Affleck attempting to rob a bigwig in Boston.
Reluctant partners in chaos
The official synopsis reads, Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to pull off a robbery of the ill-gained earnings of a corrupt politician. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also by backwards bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses.
A star-studded cast
The Instigators boasts an ensemble cast including Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Toby Jones, Jack Harlow, and Ron Perlman. Hong Chau plays Rory’s therapist who gets roped into their frantic getaway.

Casey Affleck co-writes this feature with Chuck MacLean. His big brother Ben Affleck is on board as a producer along with Matt Damon, Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Kevin J. Walsh, Alison Winter. A reunion worth noting
Director Doug Liman kicked off Matt Damon’s Bourne career with 2002’s The Bourne Identity. Damon commented on their collaboration saying why he was drawn to the project: “It’s always great to go back to Boston,” adding further how enjoyable it was to work with Doug again.It was so fulfilling to see how much Matt has grown… not just as an actor.
