Deputy Reckling tragically died in the line of duty just days earlier while responding to reports of a stolen vehicle. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded as Deputy Reckling was tracking down a 2022 Chevy Equinox stolen from Red Oaks Waterpark in suburban Madison Heights. On Detroit’s east side, Reckling was ambushed when the vehicle stopped and the occupants opened fire, inflicting fatal injuries to his head, chest, and torso.
