On June 28, a remarkable rescue unfolded involving a trapped kitten in San Ramon, California. The touching narrative began on a freeway, where Natalie Borton spotted the frightened feline. Without hesitation, she scooped up the kitten, unknowingly setting off a sequence of events that would involve local firefighters, mechanics, and veterinarians.
Freeway Rescue Leads to Another Predicament
Borton, committed to ensuring the kitten’s safety, planned to head to the Veterinary Emergency Group clinic for a thorough check-up. However, during her drive, the adventurous kitten found herself lodged near the brake pedal inside the dashboard. According to Buffy Martin Tarbox
, The kitten was trapped on the ledge which was at least 50 feet above the ground. She was unable to climb up to the freeway, but even if the kitten was able to, she would have found herself directly in the dangerous and fast-paced traffic.
Crafting a Careful Extraction Plan
Borton swiftly reached out for help from the San Ramon Valley Fire Department. Upon arrival, firefighters recognized the complexity of the situation – one of the kitten’s hind legs was entangled around an internal brake mechanism. Quick and rash actions were not an option. As they assessed their approach, it became clear additional expertise was needed.
Collaboration Brings Resolution
A call for reinforcement brought mechanics into play. Several local repair shops were contacted until they decided on visiting Goodyear Tire Service in Lemoyne. There, mechanic Kevin Howell and his team undertook the delicate task of reaching and extracting the eight-week-old black kitten that had nestled herself within Natalie’s engine bay.
Howell shared his experience: We put the car higher up in the air and shined flashlights up inside and I saw her, so we put the car down and someone finally got a hold of her.
Sedation Ensures Safety During Removal
The joint effort saw further involvement from a mobile veterinarian who sedated the kitten to facilitate safe extraction. According to reports, sedation played a crucial role in avoiding further injury – a method emphasizing care and patience over haste.
A Happy Ending for Gaz Pedal
The rescue concluded with success as firefighters carefully dismantled parts of Borton’s Holden sedan dashboard to free the feline. Despite being thoroughly trapped, the kitten emerged unscathed – her new name ‘Gaz Pedal’ embodies both her ordeal and heroism. After being examined at the vet clinic post-rescue, it was confirmed that she had no injuries.
Natalie Borton expressed her intent to provide Gaz Pedal with a permanent home following final medical checks.
