Jennifer Aniston teared up during a recent interview when she was asked about re-watching Friends, the show that made her and late actor Matthew Perry stars. 
Aniston starred in the hit NBC sitcom from 1994 to 2004 alongside Perry, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Courteney Cox.
An Emotional Moment
During their interview for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Quinta Brunson suggested asking Aniston what it’s like to watch Friends now. Before Brunson could even ask the question, Aniston said, Oh God, don’t make me cry.
Aniston added emotionally, I’m sorry, I just started thinking about—
, seemingly about to reference Perry before pausing to collect herself. 
She received a tissue and took a moment.
Perry’s Sudden Passing
Perry died unexpectedly at his home on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his manner of death an accident.
Tearful Yet Determined
Brunson assured the Friends actor that she didn’t have to talk about the show, but Aniston decided to continue. No, I’m OK. It’s happy tears,
she replied while wiping her eyes.
A Qualitative Milestone
Aniston then collected herself and responded to Brunson’s note that Friends was turning 30. She quipped, And I’m turning 30… what a coincidence.
Aniston reminisced about those early days with fondness: It’s so strange to even think that it’s 30 years old. Because I remember the day that it was going to premiere on television on NBC: Matthew Perry and I were having lunch somewhere, and we knew Lisa was getting her hair colored…
. She also recalled snatching the nozzle from her hairdresser and washing Kudrow’s hair.
The Bond Beyond the Show
Aniston reflected on how much the show still means to people: The fact that it’s had this long, wonderful life and it still means a lot to people is one of the greatest gifts I think all five of us—all six of us—could imagine.
The deep connections between the cast remain strong: I talked on FaceTime with Court last night for an hour, and Lisa and the boys. It’s a family forever.
A Heartfelt Tribute
After Perry’s death, Aniston posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram acknowledging the entire cast’s immense love for him. She wrote, in part: Oh boy this one has cut deep… Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions I’ve never experienced before…

An emotional portion of her tribute noted: He was such a part of our DNA. There were always six of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed who we were.
. Reflecting on their bond over the years, she concluded with affectionate words for Perry: I talk to you every day… sometimes I can almost hear you saying ‘could you BE any crazier?’ Rest little brother. You always made my day.
