WARREN, Mich. – In a stunning turn of events, Alexander Morris, the lead singer of the legendary group the Four Tops, has filed a lawsuit against Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren, Michigan. The lawsuit alleges severe racial discrimination and misconduct during an April 2023 visit.
Accusations of Racial Discrimination
Morris, who is Black, claims that the hospital staff restrained him and ordered a psychological exam when he went in for chest pain and breathing problems. According to the lawsuit, the staff wrongfully assumed he was mentally ill when he revealed his identity as a celebrity figure

The Legacy of the Four Tops
The Four Tops have a rich history dating back to the 1950s, with hits such as I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) and It’s The Same Old Song. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Although Morris is not an original member, he joined the group in 2019, proudly carrying on their legacy.
Morris’s Nightmare Experience
The lawsuit states that a nurse finally acknowledged Morris’s testament of being a member of the Four Tops, which led to cancelling the psychological exam. Morris later publicly spoke about his ordeal last year, mentioning how he had returned to Detroit and was being told that I’m insane or schizophrenic
. The incident left him feeling deeply humiliated.
The Hospital’s Response
The lawsuit also highlights a lackluster offer from the hospital in apology—to appease the situation, they offered Morris a $25 gift card, which he declined. In response to these allegations, the hospital stated: We remain committed to honoring human dignity and acting with integrity and compassion for all persons and the community…We do not condone racial discrimination of any kind. We will not comment on pending litigation.
