On June 27, Cherie Jimenez will make her highly anticipated debut in the recast role of Gabi Hernandez DiMera in Days of Our Lives. Fans are eagerly awaiting her first appearance, confirmed by Deadline.
As viewers know, Gabi has been unjustly imprisoned for the murder of Li Shin, a storyline twist meant to facilitate the exit of Camila Banus, who was last seen as Gabi in November 2023. Banus expressed her emotional departure by saying, It’s bittersweet for me. I think I’m at a time in my life where personally, it’s a good time for me to step away and just take a reset. It’s going to be hard for me to let go of Gabi in that sense.
Banus was not the first to portray Gabi; the character was originally played by Gabriela Rodriguez from 2009 to 2010.
In recent episodes, Rafe (Galen Gering) and Stefan (Brandon Barash), who believe in Gabi’s innocence, are working tirelessly to free her from prison – the pressure is mounting.
A Manhattan native, Jimenez has sharpened her acting skills at The Professional Performing Arts School and SUNY Purchase Acting Conservatory. While this marks her entry into soap operas, she is no stranger to the screen with recurring roles on shows like Banshees and Pretty Little Liars, among others.
Sharing her excitement about returning to the role she deeply connects with, Jimenez said, I’ll be 37 this weekend and it’s one of the roles in my twenties that always just stayed in the back of my mind.
