Blake Shelton may have left The Voice, but that doesn’t mean he’s letting go of his playful rivalry with fellow Coach Adam Levine. Now that Levine is back as a Coach for Season 27, Shelton has made it his mission to help Kelsea Ballerini, the newest occupant of the famous red chairs, defeat Levine. It looks like Season 27 will be a showdown for the ages!
Kelsea Ballerini is no newbie. She served as the “Fifth Coach” in Season 15 of The Voice during the competition’s digital series Comeback Stage and later served as an advisor for Team Kelly Clarkson. Additionally, she filled in for Clarkson as a Coach during Season 20 when Clarkson was briefly ill.
Levine’s Return Shakes Up the Dynamic
Levine was one of the original four Coaches on the singing competition show, and his return is creating quite the buzz. Levine joked to People, I feel very strongly I’m going to have to really fight Adam Levine…I know it’s a big deal that he’s coming back, but yeah — I feel like we’re going to be frenemies. Just kidding. However, I’ve gotten some pep talks from Blake about how to take him down!

Ballerini’s Journey on The Voice
Ballerini has plenty of experience with singing competition shows. She served as a fifth coach for singers on Season 15’s “Comeback Stage” segment and was Team Kelly’s celebrity mentor during Season 16.

, she said of the opportunity to join the hit series. I’ve gotten to be on set in different capacities over the years, but to really assume that role as a Coach — it’s really going to stretch me and it’s going to be a new opportunity.
Shelton has been a mainstay on the popular singing competition show since its very first season in 2011. He coached up promising artists on Team Blake for a total of 23 seasons (that’s 12 years!). However, Blake Shelton officially left the competition in 2023. The country crooner’s departure significantly impacted the dynamics of the show.
A Fresh Start With Familiar Faces
The Season 27 Coaches line-up has officially been revealed, featuring a blend of classic Coaches and exciting newcomers. John Legend returns after a short break for Season 27, joined by Kelsea Ballerini in her debut season, Michael Bublé, and of course, Adam Levine.
Sonic superstar John Legend is no stranger to The Voice either. He was a Coach for an uninterrupted seven-season stretch from Seasons 16 through 22 and returned for Seasons 24 and 25.
A New Rivalry Brewing?
Ballerini seems poised for success having received encouraging words from her industry peers. One thrilling aspect fans are looking forward to is seeing how she interacts with new rival Adam Levine.
