Bad Boys for Life, released in August 2020, managed just $3.2M at the Chinese box office amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, however, Will Smith’s films such as 2012’s Men in Black 3 and 2019’s Aladdin performed well, grossing $77.2M and $53.4M respectively in China.

The third installment opened to $62.5M domestically over MLK weekend in 2020, eventually earning $206.3M domestically and $426.5M worldwide.

During an investor call, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra expressed optimism about the box office prospects for Bad Boys: Ride or Die. He stated, The theatrical market has been challenging, but we expect audiences to return to theaters as big films continue to release.

The domestic box office tracking predicts a start of around $50M for Bad Boys: Ride or Die, potentially making it this summer’s second-highest opening after Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
