Adam Levine, the Maroon 5 frontman, is making a grand comeback to The Voice after a five-year hiatus since his departure in 2019. As NBC announced on June 4, Levine will be joined by John Legend, Michael Bublé, and newcomer Kelsea Ballerini for the much-anticipated season 27.
Levine’s Return
Levine, who was one of the original coaches when The Voice launched, is back after serving as a coach for the first 16 seasons. Reflecting on his initial departure, Levine had expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt Instagram post: About 8 years ago, Mark Burnett convinced us to sign up for this show where you sit in a big red chair with your back turned away from the singers on the stage…It went on to be a life shaping experience that will be close to my heart forever.
The reunion of Levine with Blake Shelton’s absence will mark a significant shift as both were the longest-serving coaches before Levine left. Reacting humorously to Shelton’s exit, Levine stated: It’s about time!
New Faces and Familiar Ones
The upcoming season heralds not just the return of veterans but also fresh talent. Kelsea Ballerini is stepping up as a full-time coach for the first time. Although new as a head coach, Ballerini is no stranger to the show; she has been an advisor and even filled in during battle rounds in previous seasons. In a promotional video, she humorously said: Just pretend I’m Kelly.
Michael Bublé Takes the Stage Again
Michael Bublé will be returning after making his debut as a coach last season. He initially joined as a guest advisor during season three and took on a full-time role recently. His journey promises to bring a fresh dynamic with his unique style and insightful critiques.
John Legend’s Farewell
This season also marks John Legend’s last appearance as he steps down to make way for new coaches. Reba McEntire humorously commented on his exit: Unless they’re going to refer to him now as the Legend, then I will beat him over the head with that title. That’s just a given.
