Warner Bros. brings exciting news for ‘Mad Max’ fans as ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’, George Miller’s latest addition to the franchise, heads to digital in the UK this coming July. Following this, the highly anticipated 4K UHD Blu-ray and DVD will be available in August.
The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, a role previously portrayed by Charlize Theron. Taylor-Joy steps into the iconic shoes with a fresh perspective, bringing dynamic action scenes to life.
Chris Hemsworth’s Intense Preparation for Dementus
Playing a key role in this saga is Chris Hemsworth as Dementus. His preparation was noteworthy. Hemsworth shared, George suggested to me to journal as the character, which I hadn’t done before… It was 2 am one night. I was awake, and I just put pen to paper, and just started scribbling down thoughts and ideas as Dementus.
This method clearly paid off, with Hemsworth delivering a gripping performance.
A Clash of Titans
The storyline follows Furiosa as she navigates the perilous Wasteland after being taken by a biker horde led by Dementus. The narrative intensifies as she becomes embroiled in a conflict between Dementus and the infamous Immortan Joe, played by Lachy Hulme.
A Glimpse into the Characters’ Past
The film also explores the backstory of young Furiosa, portrayed by Alyla Browne. Miller hints at thought-provoking themes through Furiosa’s journey, drawing comparisons to classic storytelling dilemmas.
The Future of Furiosa
Miller’s direction continues to push boundaries within the post-apocalyptic genre. He reflects on Furiosa’s potential future by stating, I’ve often speculated when we see Furiosa go up to the Citadel on that platform at the very end [of Fury Road] and nod goodbye to Max who wanders to the Wasteland… I often think: ‘What does she do, sitting up at the top of the dominant hierarchy? Does she fall into the trap that most revolutionaries do? You know, yesterday’s hero becomes tomorrow’s tyrant, which is classic in storytelling.’
Despite not making a significant impact at the box office like its predecessor ‘Fury Road’, ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ is expected to find its audience in home media releases. Prime Video lists it for pre-order at £24.99 for digital purchase starting from June 24th.
