10 Things You Didn’t Know about Danica McKellar

Some of you might not even have known Danica McKellar by name and could insist on calling her Winnie since that was the role that helped make her famous on The Wonder Years. But before and since that show she’s had a rather interesting life since she’s done a few things and shown that she’s more than just a pretty face and a single-note actress. Her life thus far hasn’t been as out there or as widespread in the news as a few other actors, but she’s been quietly moving forward with her career and her education for years now and has become a rather successful person that is still one of the most gorgeous women that people will gladly comment on. That being said she’s also shown that while she’s not the loudest or most camera-hungry person in the world, she doesn’t mind getting in there and making herself known from time to time.

Here are a few other things you might not have known about Danica.

10. She’s a two-time bestselling author.

Both books she’s written are about math and the many different theories and ways she’s found to actually explain it so that people that don’t happen to like the subject can better understand its importance in life and how it can be applied in a much easier way.

9. Danica wasn’t a big fan of PE when she was in school.

It’s hard for those that love the freedom and excitement of physical education to understand how anyone could not get into it, but there are those that don’t happen to like the cloistered way that kids are made to run around without much of a purpose other than to do what the teacher tells them.

8. She did have a guest spot on NCIS at one time.

She played a young woman that had been witness to a murder across the way from her apartment. She and Agent McGee had a mutual attraction, but unfortunately her character was killed off during the episode, sending poor Tim into a tizzy as he tried hard to prove that what she’d seen had actually happened.

7. Kirstie Alley was one of her idols growing up.

Kirstie Alley and many others seemed to have been the idols of a lot of people growing up since back in the day she and others were among the hottest stars on the block and were the people that many wanted to be like.

6. She was offered a spot on Wife Swap and The Apprentice.

It’s not too disappointing that she decided to refuse both. Reality TV has become something of a parody that is really funny in a more depressing way than anything these days and being caught up in it usually means an actor needs the exposure that badly.

5. Danica is a firm believer that math can be fun.

For all those that don’t think math can be any fun Danica is firmly set on the belief that the way it’s taught in schools is simply too stiff and doesn’t allow people to really get into the idea that math can be interesting and even more engaging than it’s been traditionally seen to be.

4. She originally planned on being a film major when she went to UCLA.

It’s funny how plans change once we find our way to the path that we want to take. But while she was trying to become a film major she kept on taking math classes since she missed out on them when she was younger. From that point on she kind of had a passion for math that didn’t abate.

3. She’s fluent in French.

Her on-set tutor was also fluent in French so the two of them were able to converse and get a lot of work done while she was in-between takes and needed to study up in order to keep up with her education.

2. Danica had a few guest appearances in The Twilight Zone.

This was just before she was seen on The Wonder Years, which proves that she did have something going before the show, even if she wasn’t all that well-known yet. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time or simply sticking in there when the right people are looking for new talent.

1. She took a hiatus from acting to get her education.

Instead of abandoning her education altogether for an acting career she decided to step away from acting for a bit in order to further her education. This is something other than the norm when you consider how many actors have gone ahead and quit college since it wasn’t for them apparently.

It’s kind of rare to find someone in show business that focused more on their education than their acting throughout the life but it’s also a bit refreshing since it means that education is still a priority.
