This falls nearly 3 million short of what Ahsoka managed in the same timeframe. Nevertheless, The Acolyte still marks Disney+’s largest series debut for 2024.
PREVIOUSLY: Disney’s latest addition to the Star Wars universe, The Acolyte, garnered a remarkable 4.8 million views on its first day alone. This significant viewership indicates the success of the show’s premiere and positions it as Disney+’s biggest series launch of the year.
An exact first-day viewership total isn’t available for Ahsoka, though records suggest it achieved 14 million views over five days, averaging 2.8 million daily. The data implies most of these views occurred in the show’s early days. Note that a “view” is calculated by dividing the total hours watched by the runtime of each title.
Variety critic Alison Herman compares The Acolyte to Andor and The Last Jedi for its unique interpretation of established lore. Her review applauds the series for being propelled by plentiful action, much of it hand-to-hand combat heavily inflected with martial arts.
Additionally, Herman highlights thatthe action itself is rooted in conflict with stakes both large and small for characters we quickly come to care about.
Per its logline, The Acolyte followsan investigation into a shocking crime spree that pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg).
