The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, is unquestionably one of the most prominent figures in the NFL. Cheering him on since Day 1 has been his mother, Randi Mahomes.
Despite Mahomes’ meteoric rise in fame and fortune, Randi, who also has two other children, Jackson, 24, and Mia, 12, continued to work as an event planner. She maintained her position long after the Chiefs selected Mahomes as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. At the age of 51, however, she’s ready to retire.
Randi took to Instagram on June 27 to announce her retirement from her longstanding position at Hollytree Country Club: Tomorrow is my last day at the ‘Tree’ Hollytree. 19 1/2 years & TRULY on a roller coaster of emotions especially because Hollytree is my Family too. Could use prayers for this huge leap of faith. Focusing on my kids and being a ‘Grandi’ which I love more than anything.
Aside from being a proud mother to Patrick, who recently signed a record-breaking $450 million contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, Randi is also a grandmother to Patrick’s two children with Brittany Mahomes: Sterling, aged three, and Bronze, aged one.
Many fans were surprised to learn that Randi was still working despite her eldest son’s enormous success. During a conversation on “The Mom Game Podcast,” Randi explained why she chose to continue working: I still look at him the same. I look at him the same way I look at Jackson and Mia… and I treat him the same as the other two.
Though retired from her day job, Randi remains active through various sponsorship deals that she continues to promote on Instagram. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the 2024 NFL Honors in Las Vegas, she revealed how she gives Patrick his needed space as he prepares for significant games like his fourth Super Bowl appearance.
