Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron have rekindled their on-screen chemistry, drawing from their previous collaboration. Reflecting on their past roles, they find it simpler to step back into familiar territory.
The 57-year-old Australian actress and the 36-year-old High School Musical star turned heads in 2012 with The Paperboy. Despite its explicit content sparking debates about its rating, Kidman and Efron’s chemistry was undeniable.
In their latest project, Netflix’s romantic comedy A Family Affair, they effortlessly revive their dynamic. As Kidman shared in an interview with Extra TV, There is an ease there, and also we were able to talk and decide to do it.
Efron echoed her sentiments, explaining, She called me and said, ‘Do you want to do this? Because if you do it, I’ll do it.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I do want to do it.’
Revival of a Cult Classic
Kidman’s career isn’t just marked by a return with Efron. She’s also reuniting with Sandra Bullock. They are expected to reprise their roles as the Owens sisters for a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic. As per Variety, Kidman mentioned, Sandy and I, yep. The Owens sisters are back… We’ve been circling it for a while, but we wanted to make sure we had a good story.
Practical Magic, based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name, follows two witch sisters who curse every man they love. Despite mixed initial reviews and a modest box office performance of $68.3 million against its $75 million budget, it has garnered a cult following over the years.
Kidman’s enthusiasm for working with Bullock again is palpable as she recounts, I just love Sandy, so the idea of working with her again… we were both saying, ‘Oh, my God, we’re still here and working and really sort of enthusiastic in life,’ and to bring that into what we’re going to do now, so it’s kind of fun.
This upcoming sequel aims to blend nostalgia with new narratives, promising to delight fans of the original while potentially attracting new audiences.
