When GH executive producer Frank Valentini teased at the Daytime Emmys that a cast member was coming back whom fans would be excited to see again, some wondered if it was John J. York (Mac) returning from his medical leave. Then Bryan Craig kept teasing fans on social media and it was later revealed that he would be back as Morgan for an episode in August. But now, Deadline is reporting that Jonathan Jackson is on his way back to Port Charles as well! And this isn’t just a quick visit — he’ll be returning this summer for what is reportedly a lengthy stay! And the actor declared he’s just as excited to be back as Lucky as fans are to see him on screen again.

Jackson got his big break when he joined the cast of GH as Luke and Laura’s son, Lucky Spencer, back in 1993. Before his exit in 1999, the talented young performer earned six Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Younger Actor and took home the trophy three times.

The role of Lucky was then recast with Jacob Young from 2000-03 and then Greg Vaughan stepped in from 2003-09. Jackson returned to the role in 2009, earning three more Emmy nominations for Supporting Actor, winning twice. Lucky left Port Charles for Ireland in 2011, but Jackson reprised the role in 2015 to be part of Anthony Geary’s final storylines as Luke.

Outside of daytime, Jackson has found success in films and television, starring as Avery Barkley for all six seasons of the ABC musical drama Nashville. Earlier this year, he appeared in the film Unsung Hero. Also a talented musician, he performs with his band, Enation, and recently released a new music video.

With Liz now single, it’s the perfect time for Lucky to resurface in her life. (Even if some fans might want to see her rekindle things with Jason!) And Laura will naturally be delighted to see her son again. But what other drama might Lucky get mixed up in? Stay tuned to find out!

The character was very different than anything else I had ever done, so it was fun to approach that, said Jonathan Jackson about portraying a character in Unsung Hero.
