At Tuesday’s premiere of FX’s The Bear season three at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the 33-year-old actor opened up about his experiences in the culinary world. While his daughters Ezer, 5, and Dolores, 3, might not fully grasp why strangers call their dad “Chef”, Jeremy Allen White shared anecdotes about his real-life kitchen endeavors. He humorously noted, I walked into every kitchen apologizing, just like, ‘I’m sorry I’m here, too, but like, please be patient with me.’
Undergoing Culinary Training
To bring authenticity to his role as James Beard Award-winning chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, Jeremy underwent serious culinary training. He worked in renowned kitchens such as Kumiko in Chicago and Pasjoli in Santa Monica. Another co-star and noteworthy cook, Ayo Edebiri, attended classes at the Institute of Culinary Education and learned from esteemed chefs across various prestigious restaurants.

Although Jeremy Allen White is celebrated for his portrayal of a skilled chef onscreen and went through significant training for it, he acknowledges that it is Ayo Edebiri, who plays Sydney Adamu in The Bear, that takes the crown off-camera. The reactions from his young daughters? Amusingly mixed. Jeremy shared that while Dolores hasn’t seen much of the show yet, Ezer enjoys watching the first few minutes of the pilot which features a humorous scene where he’s scared by a bear and falls on his butt. She requests to watch this repeatedly despite not delving further into their father’s culinary escapades on The Bear.
