Jason George is officially rejoining Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular. After spending seven seasons captivating audiences on Station 19, George is set to return to the show’s upcoming 21st season.
George, who has been with Grey’s Anatomy since Season 6 as Ben Warren, was initially a series regular from seasons 12 through 14. His departure came with the launch of the spin-off Station 19, where he continued as a main cast member. Despite his focus on the firefighter drama, George made occasional appearances on Grey’s Anatomy, maintaining a strong connection with both shows produced by Shondaland and ABC Signature.
George will be rejoining the medical drama at a crucial point as it bids farewell to two series regulars, Jake Borelli and Midori Francis. Both actors will return in the fall to wrap up their characters’ stories.
Season 7 Set Up Return
The events leading to Ben Warren’s return were subtly set up in Station 19‘s seventh season. The storyline had him increasingly relying on his medical skills due to a shoulder injury, prompting him to reconsider his future as a firefighter.
This shift culminated in the series finale, where Ben told Captain Andy Herrera that he would return to finish his surgical residency—a decision years in the making since he initially found a way to venture into firefighting without compromising his medical career.

Ben Warren has always had a significant personal connection to Grey Sloan through his marriage to Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson. The bond between Ben and Miranda was revisited in a final crossover event during Grey’s Anatomy‘s Season 20 finale.

Jason George is a long-standing member of the Shondaland family, having appeared not only on Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, but also as a series regular on the 2011 medical drama Off The Map.
