A familiar face is set to terrorize the children of Derry, Maine once again. Bill Skarsgård will reprise his iconic role as It/Pennywise in the Max prequel series Welcome To Derry (working title). Skarsgård, who captivated audiences in the 2017 movie It and its sequel It Chapter Two, will not only star but also executive produce this much-anticipated series.
The Warner Bros. Television-produced series reunites Skarsgård with key players from the film franchise, including director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti. Both were instrumental in bringing the chilling world of Pennywise to life on the big screen. Andy Muschietti will also direct four episodes of the nine-episode series, ensuring continuity from the films.
Pennywise was an unknowable supernatural force, so the actor playing him had to be kept out of the limelight.
This approach helped maintain the mystery surrounding Pennywise’s character and allowed Skarsgård to delve deeply into his portrayal without public scrutiny, according to a report by IGN.
Set in King’s universe, Welcome To Derry aims to expand on the vision established by Andy Muschietti in the feature films, which have amassed a global gross of $1.17 billion combined. The series is based on a story by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. They also serve as executive producers through their Double Dream production company alongside other notable names like Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin.
Additionally, Jason Fuchs wrote the teleplay for the first episode and serves as co-showrunner alongside Brad Caleb Kane.
The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar. This project marks Skarsgård’s return to Stephen King’s universe on television following his role in Hulu’s Castle Rock.
Recently seen in John Wick: Chapter 4, Skarsgård has upcoming roles in The Crow, Nosferatu, Locked, and Emperor. He is represented by WME, Magnolia Entertainment, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. Fans are undoubtedly eager to see how he will bring Pennywise back to life in this new chapter of horror.
