EXCLUSIVE: A familiar face is coming back to terrify the children of Derry, Maine. Bill Skarsgård is set to star in and executive produce the Max ‘It’ prequel series Welcome To Derry (working title). He will be reprising the title role as Pennywise from the hit 2017 New Line movie It and its sequel, It Chapter Two.
On the Warner Bros. Television-produced series, Skarsgård is reuniting with other key figures from the It film franchise, including the two movies’ director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti, and co-producer Jason Fuchs, who together developed this TV adaptation of the Stephen King horror classic.
Muschietti’s Vision Expands in Derry
The series expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films
, which amassed a combined $1.17 billion worldwide, demonstrating his talent for directing high-grossing horror. Muschietti himself will direct four out of the nine episodes for this new series.
A movie is very different when you’re writing the script and you’re building a story compared to what the final product is. At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s four hours long, you realize that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact.
