This summer, Ari Aster returns to IMAX with the re-release of Midsommar. Coinciding with this momentum, Aster’s fourth film for A24 is currently in production. Titled “Eddington,” it features a modern Western theme and boasts a star-studded cast including Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal. The film is rumored to depict events during the COVID pandemic, following a couple stranded in a small town which transforms into a nightmare after dark. Aster has called it a “Western-noir dark ensemble comedy.”

The director’s cut of ‘Midsommar’ adds around 35 minutes of footage compared to the theatrical release.

For those who missed it, Ari Aster’s extended cut of Midsommar previously released in 4k is the preferred version according to many fans. Unfortunately, it’s currently sold out but expected back in stock soon at A24’s online store.

A look ahead at what’s next: according to IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond, Francis Ford Coppola’s highly anticipated film “Megalopolis” will also receive a limited IMAX release. The movie recently premiered at Cannes and is still seeking U.S. distribution.
