Newton made a memorable impression in Boston and nearby towns early in his career. Looking back, he shared, Boston, and the towns close by, have been such an important part of my life and career. They were really the first people that took us in and took notice and really treated me like they wanted to see me again.
His connection with Boston fans remains strong as he returned almost 60 years later to play at the Lynn Memorial Auditorium on Sunday. It was a special homecoming for Newton as he once met Mayor Irving Kane in 1966 and participated in a ‘Jail Day’ fundraiser event for North Shore children.
Not only did his early days showcase his philanthropic spirit, but they also set the stage for a lasting legacy. Known as ‘The Midnight Idol,’ Newton’s performances broke records and paved the way for his long-standing success.
